Are you fans of Greek Mythology in your house?  My kids LOVE learning about it and we have some fun books that we have read over the years.  Today I want to show you how to make a Greek Mythology Family Tree. My son has read so much about Greek Mythology that he pretty much had this family tree memorized.

Greek mythology offers up some of the greatest, most epic tales ever. The stories of larger-than-life characters, from gods and goddesses to mortals and everyone in between, serve as a great starting point to get your child interested in reading . This family tree activity introduces him to some of the main characters in Greek mythology and is sure to entice him to follow their stories through to the end!

Start by researching  Greek mythological characters. We love reading about them in our  D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths . The front page of the book has a family tree that we referenced for our project.

Hesiod says Aphrodite arose from the foam that gathered around the genitals of Uranus. They just happened to be floating in the sea -- after his son Cronus castrated his father.

The poet known as Homer calls Aphrodite the daughter of Zeus and Dione. She is also described as the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys (both Titans ).

If Aphrodite is the cast-offspring of Uranus, she is of the same generation as Zeus' parents. If she is the daughter of the Titans, she is Zeus' cousin.

Since the relationships of the Olympian gods can be somewhat confusing, it helps to have a family tree of Aphrodite nearby as you study Greek mythology.
